Guatemala Airport Reopening & Travel Requirements

What is the situation in Guatemala?

COVID-19 / TRAVEL TO GUATEMALA

Good news, Guatemala is reopening its doors to travelers from all over the world!

This Friday, September 18, after 6 months of closure, La Aurora international airport resumed service with the reactivation of commercial flights.

Guatemala will therefore very soon be able to welcome travelers from all over the world, the only thing missing for the moment is the reopening of natural and archaeological sites, but this is planned for the days to come. The hotels and restaurants are opened and our drivers and guides are impatiently waiting to show you around the country.

In terms of health security, Guatemala has put in place many health protocols allowing safe travel while limiting the risks of contagion linked to Covid as much as possible.

Which airline to travel on?

The airline industry has suffered in recent months, the reactivation of flights and connections will be done gradually over the weeks and months to come.

Below, we take stock company by company. For Europeans, it will be necessary to plan to reach Guatemala while avoiding the United States for the moment. Other options exist such as going through Spain (Iberia), Mexico (Air France and Aeromexico) or Panama (Air France then Copa).

Iberia (best option)

The Spanish company should resume its daily flights to Guatemala in October.

Air France and Aeromexico (best option)

Air France operates several flights per week to Mexico and from October 1, the Mexican company Aeromexico will resume its 3 daily flights from Mexico City to Guatemala Ciudad

It will therefore be possible to travel from France (with Air France) to Guatemala with a stopover in Mexico.

Sanitary measures
